Listen to Obituary

Doris Ruth Della Lana, 90, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. She has now been reunited with her beloved husband of 67 years, Charles John Della Lana.

Born in Weehawken, New Jersey, Doris spent her early years in Jersey City, where her love for the New York Yankees began. She cherished memories of attending games with her father and best friend, Ginger. It was at Dickenson High School that she met the love of her life, Charlie. Their journey together started in Tennessee as newlyweds, and they eventually settled in Middlesex, New Jersey, to raise their family. In 1992, they moved to Seneca, South Carolina, where they quickly adopted a new team to cheer for, becoming avid Clemson sports fans. Most recently, they became the unofficial "trivia power duo" at Daniel Pointe Retirement Community, where Doris made many close and lasting friendships.

Doris's life was a testament to her generous spirit and deep faith. She was a dedicated volunteer, giving her time and heart to countless organizations throughout her life. Whether she was a Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout den mother, Sunday school teacher, or a classroom mom, she gave her full commitment with love. In the 1970s, she coordinated the holiday toy drive for the FISH organization in Middlesex, and up until recently, she dedicated her Thursday mornings to the Golden Corner Food Pantry in Seneca.

Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. She modeled her Christian walk for her children and grandchildren, spending time every day reading the Bible and walking closely with the Lord. Even after moving to Charleston, she faithfully watched the Sunday evening services of Oconee Presbyterian Church online each week.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her dear husband Charles, and her infant granddaughter Kyla Rose Della Lana. She is survived by her children, Catherine Taggart (Philip) of Brunswick, Ohio; Charles N. Della Lana (Matthew Kilmer) of Columbus, Ohio; and Stephen Della Lana (Kenneth Graham) of Charleston, South Carolina. She also leaves behind her adoring grandchildren Christopher, Eva (Andrew), Steven (Jessica), Cady (Sam), and Jennifer, as well as her great-granddaughter, Aubrey.

A reception to celebrate Doris's life will be held at Daniel Pointe (514 Robert Daniel Drive, Daniel Island) on September 27 from 3:00-4:00 PM. A memorial service will take place at 3:00 on November 21 at Oconee Presbyterian Church in Seneca, South Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made to the Golden Corner Food Pantry (P.O. Box 456, Seneca, SC 29679 or goldencornerpantry.org)
