Doran "Buddy" Alexander Bramlett

September 18, 1931 — July 7, 2017

Doran "Buddy" Alexander Bramlett, Jr., of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, died Friday, July 7, 2017.

Buddy, as he was affectionately known (Big Buddy to his devoted grandchildren), was born September 18, 1931 in Hartsville, SC to Doran Alexander and Camilla McDill Bramlett. After graduation from Hartsville High School, he attended Coker College and, following service in the United States Army, the University of South Carolina. He enjoyed a long and varied career, which included banking, real estate, working for the cities of Charleston and Savannah, and conducting special surveys for the United States Census Bureau, from which he retired in 2015.

A self-described unconventional believer, Buddy's cathedral was the natural world, his Holy Trinity his three favorite islands: Pawleys, Sullivan's, and Edisto. He delighted in history, the night sky, the spring solstice, his nightly martini, a Mac's Pride peach, a memorable quote, and a good bargain. But he loved most dearly, and was loved by his family and friends, who will miss deeply his charm, quick wit, and small kindnesses.

Buddy is survived by his beloved former wife, Amy Edmunds Bramlett; his sister Barbara Bramlett Kolb (James); his children Frances Weston Bramlett (Russell Wallace), Amy Bramlett McEachin (Malloy), Elizabeth Bramlett Baker (Charles), Thomas Alexander Bramlett (Russell Parkman); his grandchildren FitzLee McEachin (Erin), Peter McEachin (Paige), Amy Buchanan (Will), Daniel McEachin, Marie Stitt (Edward Crouse), Weston Stitt, Emma Baker, Charlie Baker, Camilla Baker; and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Camilla McDill.

Friends are invited to join the family in raising a glass to Buddy at the home of Betsy and Chuck Baker on Saturday, July 15, 5:00-7:00 p.m. Final arrangements will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lowcountry Land Trust, 43 Wentworth St, Charleston SC 29401, www.lowcountrylandtrust.org.
