Donna Rogers Cash

Donna Rogers Cash, 95, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, December 27, 2023. Her Funeral Service will be held Sunday, December 31, 2023 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at 3:00 pm. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley Chapel. Arrangements by J. Donna was born July 13, 1928 in Honolulu, Hawaii, daughter of the late James Rogers and the late Stella Albright. Donna Jean Yvonne graduated from President Theodore Roosevelt High School Honolulu, Hawaii in 1945. Her father, James Donoby Rogers was an Army Medic stationed at Schofield Barracks, Pearl Harbor. They lived just a few blocks from Waikiki Beach. Donna and her mother and sister took hula lessons and were all wonderful swimmers. Donna met Marvin at a church dance at the Congregational Church sponsored dance for the Navy Sailors. Marvin was a handsome Navy Sailor and they fell in love. Marvin was still in the Navy and the war was still going on. Donna's family lived through the bombing of Pearl Harbor. It was said that Marvin was in the Navy group that broke the Japanese code, but we never heard the details. Donna's father retired prior to WW2 and they lived in Honolulu until after the end of the war until 1945. After the war, the family flew on a Gooney Bird airplane and returned to Cleveland, Ohio. Donna and Marvin had written many letters to one another and decided to re-unite. They were married Dec. 25, 1946. Marvin went on to seminary and Donna became a pastor's wife. Donna was a pianist and a wonderful seamstress. She was a stay at home mom and pastors wife until the youngest child was in 8th grade. She drove a school bus for deaf children, worked at the Naval shipyard as a library Specialist for 15 years. She then worked as a physicians office secretary until her retirement at age 74. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, wife, grandmother, great grandmother. She was always a gentle and kind and most of all giving of her life to her family.  

She is survived by son, John D (Martha) Cash of Charleston, SC; two daughters, Martha Elizabeth Kinard of Charleston, SC, Donna Marie Cash of Charleston, SC; seven grandchildren, Katharine (Ryan) Pairis, Maria Cash, Matthew (Christin) Kinard, Jeremy Kinard, Christine (Riley) Killam, Thomas Patrick Hughes, Daniel F. Hughes; six great-grandsons, Bryce Pairis, Drake Pairis, Cade Kinard, Matthew Kinard, Chapman Kinard, Hutch Kinard; two nephews, Steven Francis, Joseph Francis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Marvin Lee Cash; son, James R Cash; and sister, Faye Rogers Francis of Melbourne Beach, FL.
