IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donald Alexius
Meis
October 26, 1935 – January 11, 2026
Donald Alexius Meis, 90, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Carole Curran Meis entered into eternal rest Sunday, January 11, 2026. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, January 16, 2026, at Christ Our King Catholic Church, 1149 Russell Dr., Mount Pleasant at 10:30 am. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Donald was born on October 26, 1935, in Ness City, Kansas, to the late Leo Meis and the late Seraphine Stoecklein Meis. He began his education in a one-room schoolhouse surrounded by the wheat fields of western Kansas and went on to earn a Master of Science in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Kansas.
Don started his professional career at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in California before shifting gears to become a salesman with IBM in Boston, Massachusetts and ultimately moving to New Jersey where he spent the next forty years. His experience at IBM sparked a lasting interest in computer software, leading to many years in the industry—both with other companies and those he then personally founded.
In 2001, he started KenBay with his sons Chris and Tim (and later joined by his daughter, Susan), selling industrial machinery. He continued working alongside them for the next twenty-four years. When asked which career brought him the greatest fulfillment, he would smile and say, “Working with my children.”
Don’s greatest loves were his faith, his family, woodworking, yard work, and KU basketball.
Don was a role model as he was an exceptionally good-hearted and kind man. He always saw the best in people and never said anything unkind about another person. That was true because he saw all people as children of God. All his life he volunteered for good causes such as JumpStart within the South Carolina prison system; St.Vincent dePaul Society at Christ Our King Church in Mt. Pleasant, SC; and blood drives for the Red Cross. He was on the board of directors for: Covenant House in New York City; Heath Village, a retirement community in Hackettstown, NJ; and the Somerset Hills Visiting Nurses Association. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his cherished wife, Carole Curran Meis; three sons, Christopher T. Meis, (Kathy) of Charleston, SC, Timothy A. Meis (Caitlyn) of Mendham, NJ, and Matthew D. Meis (Monika) of Mount Pleasant, SC; two daughters, Susan A. Economy (Douglas) of Potterville, NJ, and Mary Kathryn Sharpe (Keith) of Daniel Island, SC; 13 grandchildren: Katherine, Caroline, Colin, Grace, Aisling, Elizabeth, Quentin, Lila, Tess, Niamh, Celia, Julian, and Kieran; his brother, Arlin "Chuck" Meis; and his three sisters, Julie Beutler, Dianne Klaus-Meis, and Dolores Mussatto.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the American Red Cross, PO Box 37839, Boone, IA 50037-0839, or the St. Vincent de Paul Conference at Christ Our King Catholic Church, 1149 Russell Dr., Mount Pleasant, SC 29464.
