Donald Dale Knudsen, Sr., 81, husband of Dorothy Clyde Miller Knudsen, of North Charleston SC, passed away Friday, June 8, 2012.
Don was born June 30, 1930 in Madison, MN, son of the late Magnus Knudsen and Margaret Dahle Knudsen. He served in the National Guard in Minnesota, the US Navy during the Korean War and retired from Bellsouth. He was a member of the AT&T Pioneers and the American Legion Post 0136. Don was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid fisherman who loved to share that joy with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Clyde Knudsen; two sons, Donald Knudsen, Jr. (Liz) of Goose Creek, SC and Kris Knudsen (Phyllis) of Charlotte, NC; two daughters, Dahle Knudsen Feagin (Jerry), of Summerville, SC and Carol Knudsen Freeman (David) of Atlanta, GA; sister, Dorothy Knudsen Redepenning of Marietta, MN; 9 grandchildren, Catherine Sandifer, Jerry Feagin Jr., Dale Feagin, Elizabeth F. Blaisdell, Andrew Knudsen, Beau Freeman, Allison Knudsen, Stephen Knudsen, Chris Stum; 8 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Freeman, three brothers, Elmer, Morris and Andrew Knudsen. He is also survived by a special pet dog, Charlie.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Donald Dale Knudsen, Sr., will be held at Divine Redeemer on Monday, June 11, 2012 at 11:00 am. Prayers of Final Commendation will be held at St. Lawrence Cemetery. The family will receive friends in Stuhr's Northwoods Chapel on Sunday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Charleston Animal Society, 2455 Remount Road, North Charleston, SC 29406.
