Dr. Donald Wayne Henry, 75, of Hanahan, SC, husband of Carol Cherry Henry died Friday, April 10, 2015. His funeral services will be held Saturday, April 18, 2015 in the St. George's Episcopal Church, 9110 Dorchester Road at 11:00 am. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL.
Don was born to the late James and Minville Henry on April 28, 1939 in Lancaster, KY. He graduated from the University of Louisville in 1966 with a Doctor of Medical Dentistry (DMD) and then earned a Master's in Health Administration in 1995.
Don was a Captain in the US Air Force where he practiced dentistry for 5 years. He opened his private dental practice in Charleston in 1971, where he practiced for the next 40 years and served four generations of many Charleston families. Don was passionate about community health and caring for those with limited access to healthcare. He served as the Chairman of the Board of Franklin C. Fetter Community Health Center for 15 years. He worked as a Healthcare Consultant to the federal government for over 20 years.
Don loved golf, fishing, University of Louisville sports and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Don is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carol Cherry Henry; son Christopher (Cynthia); daughter Leigh Erin; two grandchildren, Kathryn and Clay; sister, Betty Stacy of Chattanooga, TN.
