Donald Joseph Dunlap, Sr., 79, of North Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Joyce Z. Dunlap passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2014. His Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, February 14, 2014 in the J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday, February 13, 2014 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral chapel.
Donald was born November 20, 1934 in Knoxville, Tennessee, son of the late Louis Otto Dunlap and Gladys Irene Brown Dunlap. He was a graduate of Chicora High School and attended Clemson University. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean Conflict. Donald was retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard after 38 years, where he was a Supervisor Ship Test Director. A member of the Isle of Palms Baptist Church, he was Past Master of the Etiwan Lodge in Mt. Pleasant. Donald loved the outdoors, especially fishing, camping, and boating. He believed in reaching out to help others and loved to work with young people. Donald enjoyed getting to know others, especially through his regular visits to the Waffle House for his cup of coffee and apple fritters. He enjoyed listening to country music, and loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived his loving wife of 48 years, Joyce Z. Dunlap; his sons, Donald Joseph Dunlap, Jr. and his wife, Malicia of St. Mary's, GA and Anthony G. Jordan of Merritt Island, FL; his sister, Peggy Dunlap Watson and her husband, David of Lexington, SC; his grandchildren, Amanda Dunlap Nielson, Theresa Lynn Dunlap, Donald J. Dunlap, III, Auryanna Nicole Dunlap, Robert J. Garza, Benjamin J. Garza, Timothy J. Garza, Tara Bernice Jordan, and Savannah Rae Jordan; and his niece and nephews, Ashley Watson Norris and her husband, Steve, Joy Louise Watson, Ellen Hall, Donna Maziarz, Victor Dunlap, Terri Dunlap Schneider, and Holli Dunlap Fivek. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ronald Louis Dunlap and Victor Wayne Dunlap
