Donald Adams Carver, 71, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2013. A Celebration of Don's Life will be held Saturday, June 15, 2013 in the J. HENRY STUHR INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 11:00 am. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. At Don's request, everyone is asked to wear flip-flops and shorts, but if you choose to wear a tie, Don asked that you be asked to remove it when entering the service.
Don was born April 10, 1942 in Atlanta, GA, son of the late John Henry and Seabie Orr Carver. He was a graduate of Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee and attended The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As a student, he was an award winning swimmer and sailor.
Don made a career in real estate and started a successful property management business, The Don Carver Company, in the mid-1980s. He retired in 1999 and devoted his free time to two of his biggest passions, traveling and his family.
He spent his later years trying to help others, including participating in outreach in local jails and rehabilitation centers. He was an active part of his community and saw potential for good in everyone he met. He believed that everyone was worth saving, and dedicated himself to being a part of recovery for those who were often forgotten or overlooked.
Of everything he accomplished, he was most proud of his children. He always said the most important thing was their happiness and for them to have, "love in their hearts."
Don is survived by his children, Donald A. Carver, Jr. and his wife, Shannon of Atlanta, GA, Seabie Helen Carver Semones and her husband, Edward of League City, TX, Amie Cheatham Austin and her husband, Brook of Mount Pleasant, SC, and Britton Elizabeth Carver of Charleston, SC; his sister, Jane Dickson and her husband, Alex of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and his grandchildren, Charlie and Jack Carver, Fletcher and Aiken Semones, and Sarah Jane and Carver Austin.
