Don Edward Teaster of Ravenel, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, November 8, 2023. He was born January 21, 1941, in Spartanburg County, SC. He leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Judith Lucas Teaster of Ravenel; daughters, Donna Sweatman (Gary) of Ravenel, Ashley Brabham (John) of James Island, Jennifer Yohe (Eric) of Ravenel; grandchildren, Tiffany Melling (Mitch), Katie Hyatt (Richard), Jessica Drawdy (Cory), Connor Brabham, Mary Brabham, Shelby Yohe, Wesley Yohe; great-grandchildren, Kinsley Windham, Colton Windham, Payton Hyatt, Harper Drawdy, Caden Drawdy and Emery Drawdy; sister, Janice Davis (Carlos) of Eutaw Springs; sister-in-law Marie Teaster of Hollister, MO; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Foy and Pauline Teaster and his brother Michael Teaster.
Don served in the US Air Force from 1959 to 1963 and served an additional 16 years in the Air Force Reserves. He retired from his civil service career at the Charleston Air Force Base in 1996. Don was an avid deer hunter and would say the greatest thrill was hearing the dogs on the trail of a deer. He especially loved taking his children and grandchildren with him on his hunts at North Charleston and North Carolina Hunt Clubs in Ravenel. He also enjoyed traveling and one of his favorite destinations was San Pedro, Belize, where he would spend his days relaxing by the ocean and talking with the locals.
Don was a man of many talents, and he took great pride in taking care of his family. From carpentry to outdoor survival skills, he was always eager to share his expertise with his children, grands and great-grands. He was our beloved handyman, fishing partner, sharp-shooter, jokester and advisor, and he will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends Sunday, November 12, 2023 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley Chapel. His funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Ravenel on Monday, November 13, 2023, at 11:00 am.
The family would like to thank all of the nurses and doctors at Hollings Cancer Center and Agape Hospice. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hollings Cancer Center or a charity of your choice.
