Don H. Brown, 87, beloved husband, devoted father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, United States Army veteran, respected businessman, and faithful servant of God, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m., surrounded by his loving family.

Don lived a remarkable life grounded in faith, family, integrity, and generosity. His wisdom, loyalty, humor, and strength of character left a lasting impression on his family, friends, colleagues, and the many others whose lives he touched. To those who knew and loved him, Don Brown was and will forever remain a legend.

At the center of Don’s life was his beloved wife, Joan Cannon Brown. For nearly 63 years, they shared an enduring marriage built upon love, devotion, perseverance, and their Christian faith. Through life’s joys, challenges, adventures, and blessings, they remained faithfully by one another’s side.

Born on July 8, 1939, and raised on a farm in rural Williamsburg County, South Carolina, Don learned early the value of hard work, responsibility, perseverance, and keeping one’s word. He carried those principles throughout his life and into an extraordinary career as an entrepreneur. Don founded and led Rogers and Brown Custom Brokers, a successful global logistics business, that continues today in its 58th year of operation.

Don’s professional life was marked by distinguished service and leadership. He was among the original founders of the South Carolina International Trade Conference and later served as its Chairman. He was an active member of the Maritime Association of South Carolina and the Propeller Club and a licensed U.S. Customs Broker. Don also served on the board of Citizen and Southern National Bank/Nations Bank, and on the National Bank of South Carolina Advisory Board.

Although his work took him around the world, Don’s greatest joy was always his family. He loved them deeply, celebrated their accomplishments, supported them through difficult times, and was immensely proud of the generations he and Joan built together.

An avid hunter and golfer, he loved being outdoors whether it be on a golf course or at his country home with friends and family.

Above all, Don was a devoted Christian whose faith shaped the way he lived, loved, led, and treated others. He was a faithful member of Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church and understood that life’s greatest blessings are found not in material success, but in faith, family, love, and the lives we influence.

Don is survived by his beloved wife, Joan Cannon Brown; his three daughters, Jodi and Capers Barr IV of Georgetown, Deedee and Freddy St. Laurent of Charleston, Shannon and David Wood of Mt. Pleasant; his son, Don H. Brown, Jr. (Bo) and Jenna of Charleston; his nine grandchildren, Capers Barr V (Mary), Hunter Rogers (Jesse), Cannon Barr (Marguerite), Sarah St. Laurent, Eliza St. Laurent, Madelyn Wood, Avery Wood, Don H. Brown III (Finn), Hudson Brown; and five great-grandchildren, Lee Barr, Betty Rogers, Lucy Barr, CG Barr, Jane Rogers; and his brothers, Wendell Brown and Steve Brown. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Maude and Ernest Brown; his sisters, Betty Jean Brown Mikkelsen and Carolyn Brown Green; his brother, John Gerald “Jerry” Brown, and sisters-in-law; Erma Jean Brown, Margie Brown, and Donna Brown, and brother-in-law William Mikkelsen.

A funeral service honoring Don’s life and faith will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church. A celebration of life will immediately follow at the Brown residence.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial donations be made to Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church, the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, or Ronald McDonald House Charities of Charleston.

Don lived faithfully, loved deeply, and led honorably. He leaves behind a legacy that will endure for generations.
