Dolores Ropp Stier King, 89, late of Hollywood, SC, was born on June 10, 1930 in Statesboro, Georgia and on June 27, 2019 knew that it was time to move on. Her Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, July 9, 2019 in Second Presbyterian Church, at 11:00 am. Interment, churchyard. The family will receive friends Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
She "never won a medal," but instead enjoyed a lifetime of quiet, modest dignity; charming, personal elegance; deep, lifelong friendships; unswerving, devotional loyalty; momentary flashes of anger; and a hair-trigger sense of humor -- especially at the bleakest moments. She loved her family, friends, music and a good joke. Usually preferring to remain in the background, she was often compelled to "take the reins" -- and did so with practical zest.
Like her grandparents and parents, she offers to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren -- and all of their chosen ones -- an inheritance of the opportunity to create peaceful, gentle, fun, happy, generous, supportive, loving homes and families. THANK YOU! All the rest can be chalked up to being human.
Dolores is survived by her daughter, Deborah Stier Carson of Meggett, SC; son, J. Charles Stier (Molly) of Olney, MD; two grandchildren: Cydney Carson Epps (Brett) of Johns Island, SC and Erica L. Carson (Vanessa) of James Island, SC; three great-grandchildren; and five step-children: DeWitt W. King III (Debra) of Charlotte, NC, Joseph J. King (Barbara) of Sapphire, NC, Jane King Walsh (Steve) of Roswell, GA, Robert M. King of Charlotte, NC, and Andrew B. King (Jennifer) of St. Johns FL.
She was predeceased by her husband, DeWitt Walker King, Jr., her son-in-law, Robert P. "Bob" Carson, and the father of her children, Kenneth C. Stier.
Memorials may be made to Second Presbyterian Church, 342 Meeting Street, Charleston, SC 29403.
