Dionisio Eleuterio Salas, Who lived the American Dream, Dies at 88.
Dionisio Eleuterio Salas, 88, of Johns Island, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 6, 2022. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 8, 2022 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held in Arequipa, Peru at a later date.
Dionisio was born on October 9, 1933 in Arequipa, Peru, son of the late Rosendo Salas and Nazaria Zegarra de Salas. At the age of 13 years old, he moved to Lima, Peru to work in construction and where he met his wife, Juana Diaz. They raised their four children in Lima, Peru until the family moved to Long Island, New York in the early 1980s. He also earned a living by working at a bread factory and holding other various jobs. Adored greatly by his grandchildren, he mainly enjoyed his retirement spending time with them and traveling. With the help of his wife, Dionisio did everything he could for his family. He sacrificed his youth to provide his children with the best education and a new home in the United States. His children each succeeded in higher education, small businesses, and building a future for their own children. Although he started with very little, he left this earth a wealthy man at heart.
He is survived by his children, Maria Salas Ortega, Lourdes Salas Vergara, Emilio Salas, and Carlos Salas, along with his ten grandchildren.
