Derek Christian Whetstone, 43, of Goose Creek, SC, died Sunday, January 31, 2016. His funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 3, 2016 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road at 1:00 pm. Interment will be held at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday one hour prior to the service.

Derek was born October 19, 1972 in Charleston, SC, son of Vivian Geneva Knowlton Whetstone and the late James Edward Whetstone, Sr. He was a graduate of Stratford High School, Class of 1990 and attended Clemson University and the College of Charleston. Derek enjoyed being with people and worked in the hospitality industry. He was an outdoorsman, and especially enjoyed fishing and going to the beach.

He is survived by his mother, Vivian Whetstone of Goose Creek, SC; three brothers, James E. Whetstone, Jr. of Fond du Lac, WI, Michael C. Whetstone (Laura) and Craig D. Sohns all of Goose Creek; sister, Connie L. Sohns of Goose Creek; 11 nieces and nephews and eight great-nieces and great-nephews.
