Delphine Tillman Barnett

September 22, 1922 — April 30, 2020

Delphine Tillman Barnett, 97, of Daniel Island, South Carolina, widow of Dr. Harry J. Barnett, M.D. entered into eternal rest Thursday, April 30, 2020. Her private graveside service will be held Friday, May 1, 2020 in Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim Cemetery, Huguenin Avenue. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.

Delphine was born September 22, 1922 in Natchez, Mississippi, beloved daughter of Cassius and Delphine Tillman. She graduated High School in 1940 and went on to the University of Texas in Austin. Delphine met Harry Barnett, M.D. from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dr. Barnett did his medical residency at Natchez Charity Hospital. He joined the U.S. Army in the Pacific with an infantry group for three years. At that time, Delphine worked in a department store and then she went to work for Armstrong Tire Company making 75 mm shells as a shell inspector.

In 1946, she and Dr. Barnett were married in Natchez and honeymooned in Cuba. Harry opened his office in Ashkum, IL. Phillip was born 11/1/1949 and Bruce was born 9/26/1952. During the 46 years in Illinois, Delphine was on the Local and State Board of Easter Seals, helped with the Arthritis Clinic at St. Mary Hospital, and served on the Auxiliaries of three different hospitals. She had a love of Wedgwood China made in England and she and Harry joined the Wedgwood International Society for many years taking them all over the world.

In 1991, Delphine and Harry retired to Charleston and belonged to Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim Congregation where her grandmother's family also belonged.

On October 25, 2011 her beloved Harry passed away after 65 years of marriage

She is survived by her sons: Phillip Barnett (Adrianne) of Murfreesboro, TN and Bruce Alan Barnett, M.D. (Dr. Diane Barnett) of Toledo, OH.
