Burial will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens.
Dee began working as a cashier for SCE&G in 1946 and retired from the company as an office manager in 1983. Following retirement she worked for Creech's Florist and in recent years traveled extensively throughout the US and to China, Ireland, Puerto Rico and Alaska just two weeks ago. She was a long-time board member and past treasurer of the Sand Dunes Club on Sullivan's Island, a former member of the Pivot, Lion's and Hickory Hill Civic clubs, and volunteer for the March of Dimes and Chamber of Commerce fund drives. She was honored by the YWCA in 1986 with a TWIN (Tribute to Women and Industry) for service to her community and to SCE&G.
Wife of the late Francis Foley and daughter of the late Sarah Meyer and Charles Matson, Dee is survived by three of her four children: daughter Lark Asbelle of Seabrook Island, daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Dale Cutler of Franklin, TN, and son and daughter-in-law Joe and Reggie Asbelle of Ridgeville. Her son Gordon Asbelle preceded her in death in 1991. She had 7 grandchildren; Zack Welch, Trey Asbelle, Crystal Asbelle, Adam Sumner, Amy Asbelle, Judy Asbelle and Virginia Asbury; and 5 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister Ramona Small of James Island and her brother Raymond Cumbee of Charleston.
The family wishes to thank her many friends who offered their prayers, the staff at Roper St. Francis Hospital who cared so well for her and especially Dr. George Keogh of Charleston Oncology for making it possible for her to travel to Alaska one last time.
Finally, the family wishes to extend eternal gratitude to Ray Ardis of Eutawville, Dee's traveling and life companion who brought her so much happiness in showing her the world.
In lieu of flowers, please honor Dee by planting a tree or hanging a birdfeeder in her name.
