Deborah Rosenblum Shapiro

July 14, 1930 — June 18, 2015

Deborah R. Shapiro of Charleston, South Carolina, died peacefully the morning of June 18 at Bishop Gadsden, her home for the past two years. Born in Manchester, New Hampshire in 1930, she was the daughter of J. Morton Rosenblum and Miriam G. Rosenblum. While attending Colby-Sawyer College, she met the love of her life, Robert J. Shapiro. After several years of dating, the two married in June of 1950 and spent over 50 years together until his passing in 2003. The two enjoyed a happy and successful life working in the candy distribution business in their later lives. Deborah was the proud mother of two children, Amy S. Beinfest (Glenn) of Charleston, SC, and Stephen E. Shapiro (Mary Jean Mauro) of McKinney, Texas. She was the beloved grandmother of three beautiful granddaughters, Kristin Shapiro, Kara Shapiro, and Kaylee Shapiro all of Dallas, Texas. Deborah was a lifelong supporter of Hadassah and an accomplished athlete. She was an avid golfer, skier, and tennis player winning numerous tournaments and awards throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and older sister Judy Shapiro. She is survived by her children, and younger sister Rhea Schindler of Norwalk, CT. A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, June 22, 2015 in The Chapel at Bishop Gadsden, 1 Bishop Gadsden Way, at 10:00 a.m. Arrangement by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. The family would like to thank all the employees at Bishop Gadsden for the love and care they gave Deborah. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Charleston Jewish Federation, 1645 Raoul Wallenberg Blvd, Charleston, SC 29407 and/or the Alzheimer's Association SC Chapter, 2090 Executive Hall Road, Suite 130, Charleston, SC 29407.
