David Eugene Richardson

David Eugene Richardson, 80, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., husband of Eileen Barrineau Richardson, entered into eternal rest after a prolonged illness, Friday, January 24, 2025. His funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends an hour before the service. Interment will be private at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens. 

David was born June 24, 1944 in Charleston, SC, son of the late Eugene Pregnall Richardson and Georgiana Boddie Richardson, of Sullivan’s Island, SC. He grew up fishing, crabbing, and shrimping in the creeks and inlets on Sullivan's Island and Isle of Palms. He was a 1964 graduate of Murray Vocational School and worked with his dad and brother in the family business, E. P. Richardson & Sons, before joining the U. S. Air Force. He was honorably discharged October 1968 and returned to Sullivan’s Island where he again worked with the family business, doing, among various other jobs, installing piling for new homes and boat docks and bushhogging lots in the East Cooper area. In 1976 he began working with the National Park Service at Fort Moultrie, Fort Sumter and Charles Pinckney Historical Site as a relief Park boat operator which, over time, transitioned into facilities operations specialist which included maintenance, boat operation, restoration work on cannon carriages, and several other conservation projects. He retired in October 2009.

David was a knowledgeable and dedicated worker in whatever he did and a wonderful provider. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Cross on Sullivan’s Island. He will be greatly missed by his family.

David is survived by his wife of 53 years, Eileen, daughter Rebekah R. Whichard, son-in-law David Whichard, three grandchildren, Kathryn, Evan, and Sullivan, all of Mt. Pleasant and his brother, William L. (Billy) Richardson of Sullivan’s Island. He was predeceased by his parents, and two sisters, Elizabeth B. Richardson and Charlotte S. Richardson of Sullivan’s Island.

The family would like to especially thank the staff at Wellmore and Crescent Hospice for their wonderful and compassionate care of David.
