David Pearson "Buck" Morris

David Pearson "Buck" Morris, Jr., 96, of Johns Island, South Carolina, widower of Princess Bowman Morris, entered into eternal rest , surrounded by family, on Monday, April 9, 2018. His Funeral Service will be held Thursday, April 12, 2018 in Johns Island Presbyterian Church, 2550 Bohicket Road at 2:00pm. Interment to follow in the churchyard. A reception will be held immediately afterward at the Island House, 2658 Swygert Blvd, Johns Island. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street.

Buck was born April 9, 1922 in Olar, South Carolina, son of the late David Pearson Morris and the late Addie Croft Morris. He graduated from Murray Vocational High School. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II, 1939-1945 and was a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Buck was a member of Johns Island Presbyterian Church and the Charleston Elks Lodge #242.

Captain Buck, as he was affectionately known, was an avid outdoorsman and fisherman. He was a pioneer in off-shore fishing off the South Carolina coast. He was awarded the Wallace Pate Sportsman Award and in 2016 was awarded the Carroll A Carroll Jr Award which honors leaders in billfish conservation in South Carolina. He was a founding member of the South Carolina Saltwater Sportsfishing Association. He enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors and the ocean with his children , grandchildren and friends. He was a great teacher and mentor to many in the fishing community. He also loved his special time at his beloved Buck Stop Plantation where he was living and spent many hours with family and friends enjoying the outdoors.

Captain Buck was a cornerstone of the local automobile industry. He founded Morris Motors dealership in 1965, which was the first Datsun/ Nissan dealership in SC. He was a past president of the Charleston Automobile Dealers Association. He served on various boards and organizations until his retirement in 1980.

He is survived by two sons: Wesley B. "Bucky" Morris (Colleen) and David P. Morris III (Ann); daughter, Princess Addie "Pam" Hanckel (Miles), all of Johns Island; three granddaughters: Courtney K. Morris West (Ken), Hope M. Hanckel Bentley (Grant) and Samantha R. Morris; seven grandsons: David P. Morris IV (Kara), Miles "Milo" Hanckel, Gil P. Morris (Nancy), Wesley B. Morris, Jr. (Ashley), Ryan Hanckel (Sylvia), Marshall P. Morris (Trevor) and Cameron B. Baker (Megan); seven great-granddaughters: Chandler K. Morris, River Hanckel, Addie Hanckel, Kaylin Morris, Marin Morris, Arden Morris, Sadie Hanckel, Abby West; seven great-grandsons: Emory Bentley, Miles Bentley, Ryan Hanckel, Jr., Colin Hanckel, Reid Baker, Travis Baker, Bowman Morris, and Dylan West. He also leaves behind his very special companion, Andrea Niederhof Prettyman, a friend the family will be forever grateful to for her faithful love and care.
