David Bruce Holmes, Sr., 66, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Theresa Jackson Holmes died Saturday, January 19, 2013. The relatives and friends of Captain David Holmes are invited to attend his Memorial Service on Thursday, January 24, 2013 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL at 1:00 pm. Inurnment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 23, 2013 in the Mount Pleasant Chapel from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
David was born on June 22, 1946 in South Bend, Indiana, son of the late Clayton "Tex" Arland Holmes and Rosemary Goossens Holmes. He served in the United States Marines as a sergeant during the Vietnam War, was a retired Captain with the City of Charleston Fire Department and was the retired owner of Frank's Market. Besides spending time with family and friends, he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and racing pigeons.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Jackson Holmes of Mt. Pleasant, SC; his mother, Rosemary Holmes of Mishawaka, IN; one daughter, Sandy Holmes Powell and her husband, Bruce, of James Island, SC; three sons, Frank M. Holmes, David B. Holmes, Jr. and his wife, Kim, and John C. Holmes and his wife, Laine, all of Mt. Pleasant, SC; nine grandchildren, Geddis, Sam, Richie, Frankie, Mary Ellen, Bailey Laine, Savannah, David III, Ann Kathryn; one sister, Ruth Yuhasz and her husband, John, of South Bend, IN; one brother, Mark Holmes of Tuscon, AZ and a large group of extended family and friends.
