David Ray Harmon, 72, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Candace Bates Harmon, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, November 8, 2025. His memorial service will be held Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Charleston Baptist Church, 13 San Miguel Road. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM in the church prior to the service. Arrangements are by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel.

David was born on July 12, 1953 in Charleston, West Virginia, son of the late Raymond Gene Harmon and Marci Nelson Harmon.

A proud graduate of Marshall University, David built a lifelong career as a geologist, guided by his curiosity about the natural world and the beauty of the earth itself. He was an avid Marshall University football fan, and his love for the outdoors was as boundless as his spirit.

David was happiest outside gardening, hiking, camping, caving, and exploring new corners of the world. One of his lifelong dreams came true when he traveled to Alaska to pan for gold, a memory he cherished deeply. At home, he was known for his green thumb. He could make anything grow and took great pride in caring for their property, transforming it into a living reflection of his patience and care.

Those who loved him will remember his warmth, quiet humor, and his deep appreciation for nature’s beauty. He adored his late dog Star, a Collie-Shepherd mix who was never far from his side.

David is survived by his children, Ryan Harmon, Breanne Harmon, Dylan Harmon; grandchildren, Zay Posey, Ari Posey; and sisters, Patty Sanderson and Carol Sticklen.

He is also survived by his stepdaughters, Andrea Linderman and Mariah Ratcliff, and their children, Taylor Linderman, Colleen Linderman, Corbin Ratcliff, and Anna Ratcliff, all of whom lovingly knew him as “Poppy.”

David will be laid to rest this spring at Mannington Memorial Cemetery in Mannington, West Virginia.

David will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his kindness, and the quiet, steadfast love he shared with his family and friends. His memory will forever live on in every flower that blooms and every trail that winds through the woods he loved so much. May he rest in peace till we meet him again.
