TSgt. David L. Hammer, USAF Ret., passed away Monday, February 18, 2013 at Trident Regional Hospital. A memorial service with military honors will be held at 3:00 pm Thursday, February 21, 2013 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC, NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Born May 22, 1938 in Logan, Ohio, the son of the late Ruth and Carl Hammer. Dave served for 23 years in USAF including being an advisor in Vietnam. He also served tours in the United Kingdom, Germany and throughout the United States including NORAD. After retiring he worked at the Naval Weapons Station and at the USS Yorktown museum. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 10256, American Legion Post 1066 and Fraternal Order of Eagles in Crooksville, OH and Ancient Order of Foresters. Known around Goose Creek as "Hammer" he never met a person he didn't like to talk to.
Preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and brother; he is survived by his wife of 46 years, Margaret Ann and two loving daughters, Dawn K. and Mark Davis of Goose Creek, SC and Julia K. and Brent Petterson of James Island, SC and three adorable grandchildren, Hailey Disher, Emily Baumstark and Oliver Petterson.
