David Rutherford Galloway, 67, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Patricia "Patsy" Canfield Ackerman entered into eternal rest Saturday, December 24, 2016. His funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends following the service at The Charleston Yacht Club. The burial will be held on January 4, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Beaufort National Cemetery. A reception will follow.
David was born January 22, 1949 in Sumter, South Carolina, son of the late James Bethea Galloway, MD and Mary Elizabeth Free Galloway. He graduated from Dreher High School Class of 1966, attended Clemson University and the University of South Carolina. David was employed primarily in sales for several Fortune 500 companies. David served as a Warrant Officer in the U.S. Marine Corps specializing in Explosive Ordinance Disposal. He was an Honor Graduate of Parris Island and Reserve Marine of the Year for the Sixth Marine Corps District. David was a Proud Marine and enjoyed saying "I was reared in Columbia and grew up at Parris Island, it only took 12 weeks."
David was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Columbia and attended St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Charleston. He was past Chairman of Hampton County Ducks Unlimited and past Commodore of The Charleston Yacht Club. David was also past member of CORA, SAYRA, The US Naval Institute, and Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was an active member of the Charleston Rifle Club, American Legion Post #147 and Charleston Elks Lodge #242. His passions were family, friends, boating and cooking. He will be deeply missed.
David is survived by his wife, Patsy; sons: David R. Galloway, Jr. of Charleston, SC and Thomas M. Galloway (Charlotte) of Columbia, SC; four siblings: James B. Galloway, Jr. of Charleston, SC, Mary Ann Galloway and Dr. Lewis F. Galloway (Bunny) of Indianapolis, IN, and Richard K. Galloway of Charleston, SC; step-son, Marcus O. Ackerman III (Alisha) of Simpsonville, SC; step-daughters: Jennifer A. Mason (Anthony) of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Jill A. Settle (John) of Charleston, SC; seven step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
