David Wilson Coker, 71, of North Charleston, SC, retired Magistrate for Charleston County and widower of Lisa Brezeale Coker entered into eternal rest Monday, September 4, 2017. His funeral service will be held Friday, September 8, 2017 in First Baptist Church of North Charleston, 4217 Rivers Avenue at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Northwoods Chapel.
David was born May 23, 1946 in Charleston, SC, son of the late Charlie Neadham Coker and Lillian Stone Coker. He attended Baptist College (now Charleston Southern University). He served as a City Councilman for North Charleston, and was a former member of the Charleston County Constituent School Board. David was a longtime and dedicated member of First Baptist Church of North Charleston and was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #2. He is survived by his son, David Alan Coker (Kim) of Hanahan, daughter, Stacey Goretzka (David) of Daniel Island and their mother Barbara Coker of North Charleston; step daughter, Jennifer Renee Young of Summerville; three brothers; Charles Heyward Coker of GA, Ronald Gordon Coker of Mt. Pleasant, and Dale Arnold Coker of Thailand, four grandchildren, Skylar, Jocelyn, Olivia, and Avery; dear friends and caretakers, Gigi Russ of North Charleston and Debbie Reeves of Summerville. David is predeceased by his brothers Malcolm Levern "Vern" Coker and Gerald Rogers Coker.
