David C Brown

David Carlton Brown, Jr was Born on Monday, January 27, 1947 in Raleigh, NC to David C. Brown and Julia Miller. He grew up a beach boy, fishing and rockin' to the oldies in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

After graduating from Florida Atlantic University in 1969, he took flight that same year to pursue his life long dream of aviation and joined the AirForce where he became a distinguished graduate from Officer Training School and went on to graduate #1 in his Flight Class School . Serving 5 years in active duty, he flew C141's in Vietnam and around the world. Dave continued his service in the reserves for 15 years where he retired as a Lt Colonel.

In 1976 he was hired on with American Airlines and in 1978 moved his family from Charleston , SC to Dallas, TX. Through his tenure with AA he escalated to the rank of Captain and became known for his smooth landings. When Dave retired in 2003, he and his wife returned to their home base of Charleston.

An avid Miami Dolphin fan, golfer, boater & beach lover, he was one who never met a stranger. He loved to talk and was often known as the life of the party with his stories and infectious smile.

David affectionately known as Dave, Brownie & Poppy completed his final check ride and passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2021.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Frann Brown and children Shelly Hardin (Tommy Hardin), Jill Mangold, Christopher Mangold and Danilee Brown (Sean Hoyle); Grandchildren Katy, Eric, Chad, Julia, Josh, Blake & Chase.

Services for Lt Colonel Brown aka Captain Brown will be held at 2:00pm Sunday at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, Charleston, SC 29414. Masks are required and social distancing will be observed.
