Entered into eternal rest on the morning of August 2, 2012, Daniel L. McKnight, Jr., first married to the late Irene Carlson McKnight and widower of Ruby Weatherly McKnight. Residence, Charleston, SC. The funeral services will be held Sunday, August 5, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in The Second Presbyterian Church, 342 Meeting Street. Interment, Riverview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL Saturday between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m.
Mr. McKnight was born May 22, 1921 in Charleston, SC to the late Daniel Laslee McKnight and the late Ella McPherson McKnight. He was a graduate of Florence High School in 1937 and a 1941 graduate of The Citadel. He served in the United States Army in World War II leaving the service with the rank of Captain after overseas duty in the China-India-Burma Theatre.
He was a member and elder at The Second Presbyterian Church, where he taught Sunday School for many years. He went into accounting practice with George G. McKnight in December of 1948 and retired as Senior Managing Partner with McKnight and Frampton Co., C.P.A. in 1989. He was past president of SC Association of Certified Public Accounting, past president of the Charleston Sertoma Club, past chairman of Trident United Way, member of The Citadel Brigadier Club, The Citadel Alumni Association and The Citadel Foundation.
He is survived by one son: Mark Wester McKnight of Charleston, SC; one daughter: Bonnie Irene McKnight of Charleston, SC; five grandchildren: Laura, Drew, Daniel, Gus and Stewart; three great grandchildren: Ella, Meg, and Reid; one sister: Ermine McKnight Nave of Greenwood, SC; one brother: Joseph McPherson McKnight of Florence, SC; one step-son: Richard M. Weatherly, Jr. (Bernadette) of Vienna, VA; one step-daughter: Nancy W. Rentkiewicz (Lawrence) of Ellicott City, MD; four step-grandchildren: Taylor, Ross, Thomas and Emma.
