Daniel "Danny" Eugene Mathewes, Sr. 65, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Sharon Smith-Mathewes, died Friday, June 27, 2014. His Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, July 2, 2014, in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL at 11:00 am, where the family will receive friends from 10:00 am until time of service.

Danny was born February 5, 1949 in Charleston, SC, son of the late John Arthur Mathewes, Sr. and the late Lois Knight Mathewes. He was a supervisor with Kapstone Paper and Packaging Corporation. He was also member of the VFW Post - Isle of Palms, the Daniel Island Tennis Club, and the Charleston Shag Club.

He is survived by his wife of Mt. Pleasant, SC; his son, Daniel E. Mathewes Jr. and his wife, Marybeth, of Goose Creek, SC; his daughter, Margaret "Peggy" Oakley and her husband, John, of Wando, SC; three granddaughters, Grace Oakley, Katy Oakley, and Abby Oakley; two grandsons, David Hammond and Ethan Hammond; and two step-sons, Edward "Owen" Cox, Jr. of Daniel Island, SC, and Bradford Clayton Cox of North Carolina.. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lois Thompson; his brother, John A. Mathewes Jr.; his brother-in-law, Fred Thompson Sr.; and his niece, April Thompson.
