Dan Henry Mizzell

Dan Henry Mizzell, Jr., 87, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Betty White Mizzell, entered into eternal rest Thursday, April 7, 2022.  His Funeral Service will be held Monday, April 11, 2022 at Harbor View Presbyterian Church, 900 Harbor View Road at 1:00 PM.  Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Monday, April 11, 2022 following the cemetery committal in Harbor View Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.  

Dan was born August 18, 1934 in St. George, South Carolina, son of the late Dan Henry Mizzell, Sr. and Bertha Harbison Mizzell. Dan is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty White Mizzell; daughter Dana M. Goethe (John) of Jacksonville, Florida; and grandchildren Jacob H. Goethe, Isabella R. Goethe, and Lilly L. Goethe, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.  He is survived by one brother, Richard Mizzell, and was preceded in death by seven siblings.  

Dan graduated from Spartanburg Methodist College. He served in the South Carolina National Guard from 1952 through 1964 and then served in the United States Coast Guard Reserves from 1975 through 1994.  He was a career employee and retired from Lockheed Martin.   A quiet, hard-working man with a heart of gold, Dan was devoted to his family.  He and his wife Betty were charter members of Harbor View Presbyterian Church. Dan was a master wood worker and an ardent fan of Porter Gaud Football, continuing to travel to away games well into his eighties.
