Damon Sherrill Stewart, 89, of Summerville, South Carolina, widower of Doris Wade Stewart, entered into eternal rest Saturday, July 15, 2017. His Funeral Service will be held Monday, July 17, 2017 in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Plantation Memorial Gardens, 3345 South Live Oak Dr., Moncks Corner. The family will receive friends Monday in Northwoods Chapel an hour before the service.
Damon was born October 4, 1927 in Harnett County, North Carolina, son of the late Carlton Stewart and Lala Ryals Stewart. He was a United States Navy veteran and served in World War II from January 1945 to July 1946. He retired from over 35 years in the trucking industry, primarily with McLean Trucking, as a safety supervisor and compliance manager.
Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl Stewart Brown (Ron) of Austin, TX, and Cindy Van Horn (Guy) of Summerville, SC; five grandchildren: Jason Brown (Amber), Nick Van Horn (fiancee Erin), Lindsay O'Connor (Chris), Catherine Thomas (James), Jenna-Wade Garman (Barclay); and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Stewart, and a sister, Doris S. Lindsay.
