Cyrus Thaddeus Pye

Cyrus Thaddeus Pye, 79, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Sondra Vick Pye died Thursday, February 5, 2015. The relatives and friends of Cyrus Pye are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Sunday, February 8, 2015 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the Mount Pleasant Chapel on Saturday, February 7, 2015 from 5:00 until 7:00 pm.

Cyrus was born May 18, 1935 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Claude Cyrus Pye and the late Daisy Emily Jones Pye Wierman. He served in the United States Air Force and retired from the Mount Pleasant Fire Department as its Chief and previously was a member of the Charleston Fire Department. Cyrus also worked at Connelly Management. He was Past President of Mount Pleasant Civitan Club, Lifetime and Past President of S.C. Fire Chief's Association, Lifetime and Past President of Tri-County Fire Chief's Association, member of the S.C. Firefighter's Hall of Fame, member of the State Fire Inspectors Association, and a member of the International Association of Fire Chief's. Cyrus was also the recipient of the Fritz Turner Award, a Lifetime member of the S.C. State Fireman's Association, founder of the Midway Fire Department, and co-founder and Past President of Carolina Children's Charity, Life member and Past President of the Rifle Club, past member of the Exchange Club, a member of American Legion Post #147, was a fish and wildlife service volunteer, Sewee Visitor Center Volunteer and a volunteer at East Cooper Hospital.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sondra V. Pye of Mt, Pleasant; one son, John L. Pye and his wife, Terri, of North Charleston, SC; one daughter, Iris Irene Buenting and her husband, David, of Johns Island, SC; four granddaughters, Melissa Alsip, Tiffany Romanchek and her husband, Chris, Jennifer Pye and her husband, Scott, and Brooke Hamby and her husband, Brandon; one grandson, Chadd Buenting and his wife, Elizabeth; five great grandsons, Zachary Pye, Chaddwick Buenting, Jacob Pye, Dylan Buenting, and Chase Daigle; six great granddaughters, Marisa Romanchek, Kylie Alsip, Carson Hamby, Baylor Hamby, Riley Buenting and McKinley Romanchek; one brother, Burnet Pye; and one sister, Nancy Wierman. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, Edward Wierman, a daughter, Mary Emily Pye, a brother, Louis Pye and a sister, Mary E. Pye.
