CPO Harold "Johnny" Donald Vashon, USN Ret., 93, of North Charleston, SC, husband of Frances "Rose" Fickling Vashon, died Tuesday, April 5, 2011, peacefully at home.

Born October 8, 1917 in Waterville, ME he was one of four children of Lafayette A. Vashon and Mabel Veilleux Vashon.  Following his retirement from the US Navy he worked as a welder at the State Port Authority in Charleston for 20 years.  He also worked part-time in construction.

Mr. Vashon is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rose Vashon of North Charleston, SC; son, Mark S. Vashon; two grandsons, two step-grandsons, numerous nieces and nephews.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held in St Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Friday, April 8, 2011 at 2:00 PM.  Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell with military honors will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends in Stuhr's North Area Chapel, 2119 Dorchester Road, Thursday, April 7, 2011 between 6:00 and 8:00 PM.  The Rosary will be held at 6:30 PM.
