Cooper Hightower , 87, of Santee, South Carolina, widower of Elizabeth Creech Hightower, entered into eternal rest Sunday, September 30, 2012. A Graveside Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, October 2, 2012, in Berkeley Memorial Gardens, Moncks Corner, at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road.
Mr. Hightower was born February 28, 1925 in Denmark, South Carolina, a son of the late Faber E. Hightower and Lessie H. Hightower. He was a construction supervisor before the start of Hightower Construction in 1958, where he remained until his retirement. He was one of the initial developers of the Santee Cooper Resort. He held the patent for the Golf Swing Trainer, and was a scratch golfer himself. He was low amateur in the Carolinas Senior Open, and won the SC Senior Four Ball. He held the distinction of having made seven hole-in-ones. An avid outdoorsman, Cooper loved to fish and hunt. He loved his family and friends and was always there to help them when needed.
He is survived by his two sons, Arthur Wayne Hightower (Sandy) of Mt. Pleasant and James Faber Hightower (Pam) of Charleston; daughter-in-law Elizabeth Hightower of Moncks Corner; grandchildren, Sara E. Hightower, Jason P. Hightower, Justin C. Hightower, Daniel C. Hightower, Russell J. Hightower, William C. Hightower, Jr. and Author W. Hightower; great-grandchildren, Ellie Hightower, Caroline Hightower and Gabriel Hightower; and brother-in-law, Charlie Creech of Charleston. He was preceded in death by his son William C. Hightower.
