Constance Brewer Lyle

August 5, 2010 — August 5, 2010

Constance Brewer Lyle of Bishop Gadsden and St. Philip's Episcopal Church passed into the arms of the Lord on August 5th.  She was born January 4, 1927 in Spokane, WA to Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Brewer.  She studied in Spokane and went to Smith College in Western Massachusetts.  While there, she met and married John E. Kilgore of Dallas, TX.  They had four children, John E. Kilgore and Robert M. Kilgore of New York City, Constance P. Kilgore Utter of Rhode Island and Ralph A. Kilgore of East Hampton, NY.  In 1957, they moved to New York City at which time the marriage dissolved.  In 1966 she met and a year later married Gordon Lyle, Jr. of New York City on March 18, 1967.  After two years in NY, they moved to Westport, CT where they resided until 1988. At that time, after many visits to Seabrook Island, they moved to Chalmers St. in Charleston and joined St. Philip's Church.

Connie, as she known, was very active in the arts and in various parts of church work and was known for her achievements in these areas as well as for her much admired beauty and grace.  She will be deeply missed by many, especially her husband and family.  In addition to her four children, she is survived by three grandchildren, Hannah, Finn and Charles.

The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. W. Gordon Lyle, Jr. are invited to attend the funeral service of the latter Sunday, August 8, 2010 at three o'clock in St. Philip's Episcopal Church. A reception will follow immediately in the Fellowship Hall. The burial will be conducted later in Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, NY.

Memorials may be made to St. Philips Episcopal Church, 142 Church Street, Charleston, SC 29401.
