Conrad Richard Nelson

September 7, 1938 — May 2, 2021

Conrad Richard Nelson, 82, of North Charleston, SC, beloved partner of Ellen E. McGeady, entered into eternal rest Sunday, May 2, 2021. His graveside service will be held Thursday, May 6, 2021, in Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim Cemetery, Huguenin Avenue. For those that cannot attend, the service may be viewed via live stream at https://youtu.be/WIbs5ODqZzI at 3:00 pm. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Northwoods Chapel.

Conrad was born September 7, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois, son of the late Conrad L. Nelson and the late Theresa Wawrzyniak Nelson. He was a member of Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim Congregation, long standing choir member and a retired heavy machinery maintenance technician.

Conrad loved the outdoors. He was an avid sportsman, fisherman and metal detector who relished history, film, music, travel and his family. His humor was infectious and his good nature brought out smiles in every room he entered. Even in adversity or ill health, Conrad's kind hearted friendliness was unmistakable and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He came into the lives of Ellen and her children not long after she was widowed. He took on four children, three still pretty young, having just raised two of his own and became family almost immediately. For the rest of his life, Conrad was a loving, generous partner and companion, as well as an attentive and caring step-father and grandfather. Few people have the kind of spirit that animated Conrad throughout his life, and our world is dimmer without his light.

He is survived by Ellen and five children: Patrick J. McGeady (Melinda) of Chicago, IL, Jennifer L. McGeady of North Charleston, SC, Christopher S. McGeady (Crystal) of Summerville, SC, Shannon Nelson of AR, Joby Nelson of NY; six grandchildren: Richard, Alexander, Shayna, Victoria, Leo and Henry; and two nieces, Patty Szafranski of IN and Cindy (William) Petrulak of IL.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael G. McGeady and sister, Phyllis Harrison.

Conrad had a giving spirit and patronized many worthy causes.
