With profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of our beloved wife and mother Columbia P. Clarin, known best as Connie, age 72 of Charleston, SC, on February 28, 2020.
She was born to the late Patrick and Grace Ferrara, May 3, 1947 in New York. Connie lived in New York until moving to Charleston in 1995. Though she always loved New York (and kept her fast pace), Charleston became her home and she adopted the comfortable way of living here in the South. Connie worked clerical and retail jobs most of her life. Her dream was to own her own restaurant. Connie fulfilled that dream in 2004 when her and Alberto opened Carolina Cafe in Goose Creek, SC. They worked hard and loved every minute of cooking and serving food to the community. Her dedication to family pulled her away from running the cafe so she could care for her elderly mother when she became ill.
She loved to cook, and kept an immaculate house. She had a passion for crochet and she was learning how to sew. To Connie, family was everything. and she instilled strong values in her children that served them well. She was a fierce woman who always put trust and loyalty as a priority. You never had to wonder where you stood with her. She spoke her mind and stayed true to her beliefs and values. She loved with all her heart and gave with all she had. She will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.
She is survived by her loving husband of 38 years Alberto C. Clarin, daughters Helene Berkowitz of Georgia and Candyce Pickering (Perry Pickering) of Bonneau, SC;. son James Rocco Berkowitz-Clarin (Angela Wethington) of Summerville; grandchildren Rebecca Pickering, P.J. Pickering of Bonneau, and Hailey Berkowitz of Georgia; great grandchildren Gage Manley, Gabriel Manley, and C.J. Berkowitz-Clarin of Summerville.
A celebration of Connie's life will be held in J. Henry Stuhr Inc. West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway on March 6, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Connie was an avid supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. We are remembering Connie with contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101.
