Colleen Annette Rothell Clark passed away on November 13, 2014 in Mt Pleasant, SC. She was born on January 30th, 1928 in Greensboro, GA to Nathan Emory and Florence Deason Rothell. She was married to the late Joseph Wardell Clark Jr. of Columbia, SC for 63 years.
Colleen grew up in Georgia, the eldest and longest lived of four siblings. She graduated from Crawford Long Memorial Hospital School of Nursing with a degree as a Registered Nurse in 1948. She and her friend Elsie Risher worked in Asheville, NC at a tuberculosis clinic after graduation.
Colleen met Joe while he was at Georgia Tech. They married on June 11, 1949, moved to Columbia, SC and raised their six children. They attended First Baptist Church, where Colleen became involved with the International Friendship Ministries, a private Christian organization which seeks to demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ to international students through sincere friendship and services. For many years, Colleen and Joe divided their time between their homes in Highlands, NC and Mt Pleasant, SC They were enthusiastic participants in the tennis programs in Mt. Pleasant and Highlands. They were active members of Sullivan's Island Baptist Church and Highlands United Methodist. Colleen was also very active in the East Cooper New Comers Club. Colleen and Joe loved their life together. They traveled the world and especially loved cruises. Colleen loved the outdoors, going for walks daily and gardening. She also enjoyed bridge, crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Colleen dedicated her life to taking care of her husband and children.
She is survived by Anne Clark Abbott (Julian), Joe W Clark III (Wanda), Mark S Clark (Evora), Susan Clark Marlowe (Bobby), Cary R Clark (Megan), and Carol Clark Williams (David). Grandchildren: Jenny Abbott Kitchings (Craig), John Abbott (Megan), Joe W Clark IV, Kerry Donny-Clark,(Melanie), Danny Donny-Clark (Yumi), Aaron Donny -Clark, Hope Wilder (Jessie), Cooper Marlowe (Casey), Marcos Clark, Alice Williams, Christopher Williams and seven great grandchildren.
On Sunday November 16, 2014 from 2:00 until 4:00 pm the family will receive friends at 10 Fernandina St., Mt Pleasant, SC.
The graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery, Columbia, SC on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 11:00 am.
