CMSgt Vernon L. Ex, USAF Ret., 81, of North Charleston, SC, died Wednesday, February 15, 2017. His funeral service will be held Thursday, February 23, 2017 in the J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road at 10:00 am. Inurnment with military honors will be held at Beaufort National Cemetery at 1:00 pm. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Vernon was born June 9, 1935 in Stilwell, OK, son of the late James Benjamin Ex and the late Zetta Minerva Campbell Ex. He served in both the Navy and Air Force He was a decorated military veteran who served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After military retirement he enjoyed a full and successful career in Real Estate sales, brokerage and investing. He owned Ex Properties, LLC. He was a loyal member of the VFW and American Legion; a strong supporter of the Republican Party; a member of the Elks Lodge; and a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association.
Beloved and respected father, father-in-law, grandfather and great-grandfather, he is survived by three children: Teresa Ex Starnes (Mike White) of Neosho, MO; L. Joyce Ex (Steve Lubeskie) of Goose Creek, SC; son, Lowell V. Ex of North Charleston, SC and their mother, Phoebe L. Ex of Goose Creek, SC; five grandchildren: Jennifer McCarn Middleton (Bobby) of Lexington, SC; Ashley C. Starnes (Jeremy James) of Tulsa, OK; Chelsea L. Ex-Lubeskie of Charleston, SC; Christopher D. Starnes (Roseany) of Tulsa, OK; Connor J. Ex-Lubeskie of Goose Creek, SC; three great-grandchildren: Harley Arbaugh Murphy (Stephen) of Summerville, SC; Savanna L. Arbaugh of Lexington, SC; Abigail P. Collie of Tulsa, OK; two sisters, Vivian Ex Morrow of Tulsa, OK; Juliana Ex Miller of Blanchard, OK; and sister-in-law, Bobbi Leigh Ex of Stillwell, OK. Preceded in death by his brother, Windel Ex; sister, Edra Ex Shire, and his loving companion, Sylvia B. Mitchell.
