CPO Clyde Albert Brooks, US Navy Ret., husband of the late Marie Lybrand Brooks entered into eternal rest on Thursday, August 7, 2014. He was a longtime resident of Hanahan until his health required assisted living at the Pinewood House in Goose Creek.
CPO Brooks was a WWII Veteran who served his country proudly in the pacific for 57 months. He served on the USS Coral Sea before retiring after 21 years. He received a good conduct medal, American Defense service medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal, American Campaign medal, WWII Victory medal and Philippine Liberation medal. After returning home and settling in Hanahan he went to work for CAFB for 20 years as a warehouse supervisor.
CPO Brooks was born on Sullivan's Island January 5, 1923. He was the son of Albert Clyde and Mabel Damewood Brooks.
Clyde leaves behind three children: Robert Brooks (wife Wanda) of Goose Creek, Cheryl Brooks Harris (husband Hylan) of Moncks Corner and Charles Brooks of West Ashley; sister Peggy Huett (husband Eddie) of Mt. Pleasant; companion, Elizabeth Martin Richardson of Hanahan. He also leaves nine grandchildren: Robert Brooks Jr., Rosslynn Brooks Roof, Rachel Brooks, Teri Cartin, Paul Pattison, Cassie Brooks, Jared Brooks, Katie Brooks Letson and Kelli Harris. He has ten great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert William Brooks and his grandson, Robert Harris.
Friends may call at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., North Area Chapel, 2119 Dorchester Road on Friday, August 8, 2014 between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm. The relatives and friends of CPO Brooks are invited to attend the funeral service at 11:00 am Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Hanahan, where he was a long time member. Burial will follow with full military honors at Carolina Memorial Park.
