Cleveland Spencer Smith, 77, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Janice Michel Smith entered into eternal rest Saturday, August 20, 2022. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant. The Vigil and The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, 120 Broad Street, Charleston, SC at 11am. Inurnment will be at a later date in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road.
Cleve was born April 28, 1945, in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Cleveland Joseph Smith and Anna Belle Schill Smith. He graduated from Bishop England High School in 1963 and owned and operated SERVPRO of Charleston for 40 years. After retiring, he became a driver for Coastal Limo and Going Coastal Transportation as well as Bishop England High School Athletic Department for 35 years. Cleve was a volunteer firefighter for the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department for 35 years. He was a member of the East Cooper Outboard Motor Club, and a member and usher for The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist Church. He also served in the US Army.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janice; son, Kevin Smith (Debby); daughter, Michelle Haak (Tim); five grandchildren, Jackson Haak, Caroline Haak, Avery Smith, Campbell Smith, and Ryan Smith; sister, Lynn Beltz (Jim); brother, Reggie Smith (Debby); and sister-in-law, Mary Smith. He was preceded in death by son, Jeffrey Collins Smith; and brother, Kenny Smith.
