Clauson Ronald "Ronnie" Coward, Jr.

Clauson Ronald "Ronnie" Coward, Jr., 59, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Nancy Bridgham Coward entered into eternal rest Wednesday, May 3, 2023. His Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at St. Andrews Church Mount Pleasant - Historic Church, 440 Whilden Street at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in Sam's Hall. Entombment will follow at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens.

Ronnie was born July 20, 1963 in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, the son of the late Clauson Ronald Coward and Linda McVey Pierce. He was a graduate of Wando High School. Ronnie met the love of his life, Nancy, during high school. They married in 1990 and had two children, Clauson and Addie.

Ronnie received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Presbyterian College, where he was an active member of Kappa Alpha Order. He was a lifetime member of St. Andrews Church Mt. Pleasant and a member of the Hibernian Society.

After 31 years, Ronnie recently retired as president of Coward-Hund Construction Co., Inc.  He was actively involved in the East Cooper Breakfast Rotary Club and served as President. He was also a member of the Rotary Club of North Charleston, where he served on the Board of Directors and was honored as a Ten Star Rotarian. Throughout his life, he supported the Rotary Foundation through multiple Paul Harris Fellow donations.

Ronnie received the "Forty Under Forty" award from the Charleston Regional Business Journal in 2002, and served as the Chairman for the Town of Mount Pleasant Board of Zoning and Appeals and as President of the Charleston Contractors Association. He was also on the Board of Directors of the Volunteer Center of the Lowcountry, the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, the Charleston Regional Development Alliance, the Bank of South Carolina’s North Charleston Advisory Board, the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce Membership Board, and the Trident Technical College Foundation, where he also served as an Executive Committee Member.

Ronnie loved his family and his many dogs, especially Boss, who was always with him, and was thrilled to bring the family’s newest puppy, Cash, home last week. More than anything, Ronnie's focus in life was doing all he could to make Nancy, Clauson and Addie happy. Together with Nancy, he loved boating and dirt biking with Clauson and taking Addie to horse shows and celebrating her career as an artist.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Nancy; son, Clauson Ronald Coward III (fiancée Carson); daughter, Addie Coward Pearce (husband Dixon); sister, Elizabeth Alice Coward all of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and aunt, Vera Coward of Charleston, SC.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, Clauson Ronald Coward and Linda McVey Pierce, and brother, John McVey Coward.
