Claud Henslee entered into a state of eternal duration with the Great Creator on the evening of Wednesday, January 4, 2012. He was born on the same day designated to celebrate his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, birth, December 25, in the year 1919.
Claud "Pop" Henslee, 92, was the husband of Bette Wilson Henslee, of Charleston, South Carolina. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Claud Henslee are invited to attend his funeral service at Northbridge Baptist Church. Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 10:30 am. Entombment will be private. The family will receive friends at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Pkwy, Charleston, Monday, January 9, 2012 from 5 pm until 7 pm. A Masonic Memorial Service will be conducted during the visitation.
Born in Toccoa, Georgia, Claud was the son of the late Joseph Frederick Henslee and Mamie Bingham Henslee. He was a Violin Luthier who was dedicated to promoting youth playing the violin. In his earlier life, as a fiddle player, he played at the Grand Ole Oprey and Chicago World's Fair. He also played on early radio stations and square dances in the Charleston area Claud was a Mason and a member of the Mariner Lodge #2, Omar Shrine Patrol Unit, Scottish Rite, Musicians Union, the American Legion and a former member of Chicora Lodge #366. Mr. Henslee was a WWII veteran of the US Army serving during the Tunisian Campaign.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years: Bette W. Henslee; sons: Norman B. Henslee of Washington, DC, Michael C. Henslee of Charleston, and Julian C. Henslee of Tacoma, Washington; daughter: Annette B. Davis of Atlanta, GA; sister: Ruth H. Johnson of Greenville, SC; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, 1 niece and 3 nephews. A brother, Cecil C. Henslee, preceded Mr. Henslee in death.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorials be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605-4227.
