Clarence "Shorty" Robert Morton, Sr., 81, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Janet Brown Morton entered into eternal rest Tuesday, October 29, 2019. His Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 2, 2019 in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
Clarence was born July 16, 1938 in North Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Willard Eugene Morton and Annie Samuels Morton. He graduated from North Charleston High School and retired from Westvaco after 44 years of service. He enjoyed boating, fishing, traveling, cooking and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of James Island Christian Church where he was previously very involved in church activities including home bible studies.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Brown Morton of Charleston, SC; two daughters, Carla B. Morton (Bill) of Charleston, SC and Claire V. Whitlock (Whit) of Savannah, GA; step-daughter, Lisa G. Hart (Jim) of Arlington, VA; two step-sons, Trenton B. Quinney (Nancy) of Durham, NC and Philip B. Quinney of Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Chapel V. Whitlock and Christian S. Whitlock both of Savannah, GA; step-grandchildren, Brandon A. Burdick of Hanahan, SC, Emily A. Quinney of Durham, NC, James B. Hart and Laney B. Hart both of Arlington, VA; sister, Amelia Hasell of North Charleston, SC; and brother, Wade Morton (Frances) of Truckee, CA. In addition to his parents and former spouse, Florence A. Morton, he was preceded in death by his son, Clarence "Robert" R. Morton, Jr, sister Margaret Irwin of North Charleston, SC and brother, James E. Morton of Bonneau, SC.
