Clara Maier Clayton, 86, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of John Talton "Jack" Clayton, Jr. passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2016. Her funeral service will be held Monday, March 28, 2016 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens beside her beloved Jack. The family will receive friends in Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel Sunday, March 27, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.
Clara was born November 22, 1929 in Roanoke, Virginia, daughter of the late Leo A. Maier and Margaret McCraw Maier. Mrs. Clayton attended Radford College in Virginia, and began her insurance career in Roanoke. She retired from Hartnett Realty and Insurance, and previously worked for Bob Harrell's State Farm Agency both of Charleston.
She is survived by her two sons, John T. "Clay" Clayton, III., and his husband Mike Burton of Houston, TX, and Stephen M. Clayton and his wife Georgette of Summerville, SC; two grandchildren, Madison Marie Clayton, and Jackson Alexander Clayton both of Charleston, SC; sister-in-laws, Judy Hollingsworth Maier, and Martha Ann Clayton Kibler; twelve nieces and nephews.
Clara was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Margaret M., and Amand C. Cochener, twin sister, Cecilia Maier Humphrey, brother, Leo A. Maier, Jr., and brother-in-laws, Lester G. Kibler and Charles Humphrey.
