Christine Paquette Newton

December 27, 1927 — January 28, 2016

Christine Tarrant Paquette Newton, 88, of Charleston, South Carolina, first married to the late Albert Francis Paquette (Major, Retired U.S. Air Force) and widow of Joseph Turner Newton, Jr., entered into eternal rest Thursday, January 28, 2016. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at Church of The Nativity Catholic Church, 1061 Folly Road, at 11:00 a.m. Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell will be private. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.

"Chris" was born December 27, 1927 in Haverhill, Massachusetts, daughter of the late James Joseph Tarrant and Mary Christine Moran Tarrant. She was educated in the Saint James Catholic schools in Haverhill, MA. She traveled the world while associated with the Air Force. She has called Charleston her home since 1958, and she was a member of Church of the Nativity Catholic Church, the Country Club of Charleston. She was a member of LaDames, where she held numerous offices and was Past President of The Country Club of Charleston Ladies Nine Hole Golf Association. She was a long-time employee of Elza's of Charleston. Her greatest joys in life were her family and friends.

She is survived by her children: Michael Paquette (Jennifer) of Pensacola, FL, Colleen Paquette Miller of Spartanburg, SC; brothers, George Michael Tarrant of Phoenix, AR, John Francis Tarrant of Sun City, FL, and Robert James Tarrant (Jeanne) of Newburyport, MA; grandchildren: Heather Paquette Priester (Ricky) of Charleston, SC, Lauren Paquette Gunter (Paul) of Charleston, SC, Kyle Edward Warden Miller (Rachel) of Sebastopol, CA, Casey Allen Miller of Spartanburg, SC, Kevin Tarrant Miller of Spartanburg, SC, James Patrick Paquette of Charleston, SC, Amber Lee Paquette Luden of Charleston, SC, Alison Francis Paquette of Charleston, SC; and great grandchildren: Cate Priester, Sadie Priester, Jake Priester, Charlie Priester, Finn Gunter, Sawyer Gunter, Cooper Gunter, Aubrey Luden, Henry Luden and Bob Luden, all of Charleston, SC.

She is also survived by Joseph T. Newton, Jr.'s children and grandchildren: Joseph Turner Newton, III (Rebekkah), Tradd Newton (Weezie) and their children: James, Warren and Chantler Newton, Marion Newton Schools (Burton), David Schools (Nella) and their children: Suzannah, Gray and Benjamin Schools, Scott Schools, Stephen Schools (Christi) and their children: Caroline and Sam, Joanne Newton Ayers, Mark Ayers (Vicki) and daughter Heather, great-granddaughter, Christine. Jennifer Ayers and children Sean and Joseph; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews around the world.

In addition to her two husbands and parents, she was predeceased by her son, Robert James Paquette; brother, James Joseph Tarrant, Jr.; sister, Elizabeth Tarrant Pyatt; son-in-law, Edward W. Miller; and Joseph T. Newton's grandchild, Shawn Ayers, and his son Harold Newton.
