Christine T. Baxter

Christine T. Baxter, 77, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of the late Robert E. Baxter, III entered into eternal rest Monday, February 24, 2025. Her Funeral Service will be held Saturday, March 8, 2025, in the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 714 Riverdale Drive, at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday, March 7, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel.

Chris was born March 31, 1947, in Wilmington, North Carolina, daughter of the late George Frederick Tienken and Doris Caldwell Tienken. In 1968, she graduated from Wilmington College with a Master's Degree. She initially taught elementary school in Wilmington, before moving to New Bern, NC and later to Charleston, S.C., where she settled with Bobby to raise their 3 children. 

She taught 4th grade at Stono Park Elementary in West Ashley, where she was honored as Teacher of the Year by Charleston County Schools. She also received three S.C. Senate Awards and was recognized as a Top Gold 4th Grade Teacher by Charleston County Schools. Chris was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir. She was also a member of Literacy Liaison for St. Andrews Rotary Club. 

Chris is survived by her three children: Robert Lee Baxter, IV (Kristi) of Newfields, NH, Christine (Christie) Baxter Brown (Tim) of Austin, TX, and Bryan Frederick Baxter of Charleston, SC; and five grandchildren: Charlie, Ben and Julie Baxter; and Wesley and Harper Brown.

The family wishes to thank and recognize Karen, Terri, and Julie for their outstanding care and support to Chris over the last four years so she could remain safely at home and the compassionate and caring nurses at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital for their support last week.
