Chisolm Larkin Coleman peacefully passed away on Wednesday, September 28, at the age of 52, after a courageous battle with cancer. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral services on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at 2:00PM at St. Michael’s Church, 71 Broad Street, Charleston. A private interment is scheduled to follow. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Chisolm’s life at the Carolina Yacht Club, 50 East Bay Street beginning at 4:00 p.m.
Chisolm was born May 16, 1970, in Charleston, SC. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents; Bette, lovingly referred to as “Debby” Larkin Coleman, and James Walker Coleman III. He graduated from Charleston Day School, Porter-Gaud School, Washington & Lee University, and the University of South Carolina MBA program. He was exceptionally bright, ruminative, and sagacious, which enabled him, among other things, to have an immensely successful career in banking and finance at Wachovia Bank, William R. Hough & Co, and RBC Capital Markets. Chisolm was a steadfastly loyal, devoted, dependable, and inspirational son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and friend. His greatest passion was his two loving girls, Gracie and Lane. Not a week went by when he wasn’t beaming about their many accomplishments and successes. Another passion was music. A showman at heart, he emphatically beat the drums in several bands before and after college and delivered many show-stopping renditions of Rapper's Delight at weddings and parties. His keen wit and sense of humor will remain legendary - like his father’s before him. He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. Chisolm was a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, Carolina Yacht Club, the St. Cecilia Society, St. Andrew’s Society, and the Charleston Club.
Chisolm is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of sixteen years, Margaret (Mollie) DeBerry Coleman; two daughters; Grace Coleman and Lane Coleman; his brother, James Walker Coleman IV (Heather); step-grandmother, Anne Coleman; his uncles, Heyward Coleman (Charlotte), Jamie Coleman (Cynthia), and Jep Larkin (Amy); aunts, Stevie Shellnut (Bob), Elizabeth Klosterman (Andy), and Katie Coleman; niece, Logan Coleman; nephew, Walker Coleman; mother-in-law, Martha Anne DeBerry; brother-in-law, Steven DeBerry (Jessica); sister-in-law, Martha Anne King (David); nieces-in-law, Kathryn DeBerry, Josie DeBerry, and Mollie King; and many loved cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Porter-Gaud School Foundation, 300 Albemarle Road, Charleston, SC 29407 and designated to either the Porter-Gaud Volleyball Program or Fine Arts Program, or to the Charleston Animal Society (https://charlestonanimalsociety.com).
