Chester Leland Petersen passed away in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 after a brief illness. Chester was born November 1, 1916 in San Francisco, California. He leaves behind his dear friend and companion, Millicent T. Keough. He was preceded in death by his parents Ragna and Peter Petersen, and wife, June Petersen. During his 64 years of marriage to June, he took many foster children into his home. A very tender and gentle man, he had a great love for children and animals. World Cruising, fishing and gardening were his passions. He served his country in World War II in the United States Navy. Burial will be in Hayward, California. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the The National Humane Society, 2100 L Street, NW, Washington, DC 20037 or MUSC Foundation (Children's Hospital), 18 Bee Street, MSC 450, Charleston, SC 29425 will be gratefully accepted.
