Charlotte Wayland Clarke, 85, of Isle of Palms, SC, widow of Edward Clarke, entered into eternal rest Saturday, July 10, 2021. Her memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 13, 2021 in First United Methodist Church, 12 21st Avenue, Isle of Palms at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Charlotte was born May 26, 1936 in Washington, District of Columbia, daughter of the late James Nelson Wayland and the late Virginia Gore Wayland and grew up in Fort Royal, VA. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the Medical College of Virginia (now known as Virginia Commonwealth University).
She and her family moved to the Isle of Palms in 1977. Charlotte loved the island and walked the beach every morning with friends while fulfilling her role on Turtle Patrol. She was a Registered Nurse and loved caring for the elderly. Later she went into real estate where she excelled. Charlotte and her husband Edward owned Beachside Real Estate for years. She was awarded Top Producer for many years and served on several real estate boards. Charlotte loved to go to camp every year to support and have fun with children dealing with cancer and other illnesses. The First United Methodist Church-Isle of Palms was very important in Charlotte's life and she served on many committees and enjoyed helping out.
Charlotte was an amazing Mom, Nana and business woman. Charlotte's innate gift was that of hospitality. Whether it was parties, a church get-together or the Beachcombers group, she always made everyone feel welcome.
She is survived by her daughter, Candace Leigh Clarke of Charleston, SC; son, Steven Wayne Clark, Sr., and grandson, Steven Wayne Clarke, Jr. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Russell Wayland and her sister, Shirley Wayland.
