Mrs. Cairns was born May 25, 1924, in Dorchester County, SC, the daughter of Louis Clifton "L.C." Berry and Essie Inabinett Berry. She was a Classified Specialist with the United States Army Intelligence. She was a former employee with the Pentegon, a member of the DAV, Auxiliary, and member of The Grey Ladies.
She is survived by her husband of Charleston, SC; son: Hugh E. Cairns, Jr. of Charleston, SC; sister: Ruby B. Dunbar of Charleston, SC; brother T.P. Berry of Reevesville, SC.
