Charlotte "Joanne" Blackford, 93, of Johns Island, South Carolina, wife of the late Harry S. Blackford, Jr., entered into eternal rest Sunday, March 29, 2026. Her Celebration of Life will be held Friday, April 3, 2026 at the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, from 11:30 am until 12:30 pm.
Joanne was born August 29, 1932 in Middleburg, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Charles W. Steininger and the late Bertha Blanche Steininger. Joanne enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds, cross stitching, knitting, reading and trying new recipes. She was also a huge Yankees fan and didn’t miss a game thanks to Gene and the MLB package. She could tell you the names of the players, the positions they played and if she thought they had the talent this year to go to the World Series.
She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church where in 2010 she joined an organization; Knit-A-Square for the orphans in South Africa. She contributed thousands of squares for the making of quilts. But most of all, she enjoyed and loved spending time with her family and playing "Dirty Marbles".
She is survived by three daughters, Kelly Flaherty (Jimmy) of Summerville, SC, Perian Childs (Patrick) of North Charleston, SC, Amanda "Mimi" Mills (Harry) of Hollywood SC; son, Edward Eugene Flaherty of Tallassee, FL; two granddaughters, Courtney Hamann, Lauren Lemieux; four grandsons, James R. Cantwell, Joseph Green, Elliot Bongiorno, Aiden Childs; five great-grandsons, Harrison Hamann, Lukas Hamann, Ezra Green, Eli Green, Mason Lemieux; and two great-granddaughter, Belle Lemieux and Emma Lemieux.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Bud Steininger, II, Gene Steininger, John Steininger; and sisters, Betty Walters, Helen Klingler, Ruth Steffen.
Memorials may be made to The Homeless Veterans Association.
