Charlotte Small Bavier

July 4, 1921 — November 23, 2014

Charlotte Small Bavier, 93, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Robert Newton Bavier, Jr. entered into eternal rest Sunday, November 23, 2014. Her Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, November 26, 2014 in The Chapel at Bishop Gadsden, 1 Bishop Gadsden Way, at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends following the service at Bishop Gadsden. Interment is to follow at Magnolia Cemetery. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Downtown Chapel.

Charlotte was born July 4, 1921 in Charleston, SC, daughter of Robert Scott Small and Louise Johnson Small. A graduate of Ashley Hall and the College of Charleston, Charlotte was a member of the basketball team, the Scribblers Club and Delta Delta Delta sorority. During the war she met her future husband, Robert Newton Bavier, Jr.

After Charlotte and Bob's marriage on March 26, 1946, they moved to New England where they raised their family in Darien, CT. While in Connecticut, Charlotte was an active member of the Junior League of Stamford Norwalk, Planned Parenthood, Children's Aid Society, Noroton Yacht Club and Wee Burn Country Club. Upon Bob's retirement, they returned to South Carolina, where Charlotte was a member of the Junior League of Charleston, the Country Club of Charleston, and the Colonial Dames of America Society.

Charlotte was very active up to the time of her death and was an avid outdoors-woman her entire life including sailing all over the world, skiing and excelling in golf, even winning the Country Club of Charleston's Ladies Nine Hole Golf Association Championship at the age of 86. She also enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, art, music and bridge.

She is survived by her four children, Robert Newton Bavier III (Anne) of Arlington, TX, Louise Small Bavier of Charleston, SC, Anne Bavier of Darien, CT, and John Scott Bavier (Katie) of Barrington, RI; and four grandchildren, Robert Bavier, Scott and Charlotte DeSantis, and Luke Bavier.

In addition to her husband, Charlotte was predeceased by her three brothers, Robert Scott Small, Oscar Johnson Small and James Hampden Small.
